Junior Umpire Program
WYBSA's Junior Umpire Program provides for young men and women, in grades 7 and above to umpire Farm League and Minor League baseball games or Minors and Majors softball games. This is a great opportunity for these young men and women to continue involvement in the great game of baseball or softball and develop important life skills such as leadership, decision making, verbal communication, and accountability, while earning a few extra dollars.
Generally, first year umpires umpire the Farm League games and the more experienced umpires work the Minor League games. The league will pay $25 for plate umpires and $15 for base umpires. Anybody 13 years old or older with a love of baseball or softball who is interested in participating in the WYBSA Junior Umpiring Program should register on-line.
All candidates are subject to approval by the WYBSA Board. The Board endeavors to give all qualified candidates an opportunity. However, when the number of candidates is too large, the Board will consider the following criteria when reviewing applications:
1. Previous umpiring experience.
2. Performance evaluations/feedback on previous umpiring experience.
3. Commitment to WYBSA as evidenced by years of enrollment in WYBSA, as well as other volunteerism benefitting WYBSA.
