Tennis Ball Flys

Instructions:
Using tennis balls instead of regular balls serves two purposes. Younger players will get accustomed to proper fielding techniques without fear of the ball. Coaches will be able to quickly send more balls and more accurate balls to players. Coaches setup around homeplate while players setup around center field. Only 1 player should be in this drill at any time. Rotate players from a group on every fly ball. IMPORTANT-Players should place fielded balls into buckets and not attempt to throw them home as arm injuries may occur.

Variations:
Work players forwards, backwards and side to side.

Coaching Points:
Players should be taught and use proper footwork. Turn and go versus backpedeling should be emphasised. Also instruct players to call for the ball to get them used to doing so.
